I recently had the pleasure to visit the Yayoi Kusama exhibition at Tate Modern, I was blown away, not only by the diversity of her work, but also by the quality of it. The detail and techniques used in her early print work is some of the most intriguing I have come across within the walls of the Tate, and although I found myself less inthralled by her sculpture work when you consider that some pieces pre dated Warhole by Ten years it is truly pioneering and original. My favorite piece by far though was in the final room, the The Passing Winter 2005  installation is fantastic and truly warps ones perspective, a real joy and inspiration.

I recently visited the Royal Academy to see the current Hockney exhibition, it was fantastic.
The colours used by Hockney are inspiring, the IPad work especially caught my eye, a true legend in the world of art.

And so it begins……..

I do not have a lot of free time in between commissions and the daily rituals of everyday life but this year I have promised myself that I will make the time to create a book, not a children’s book (this seems to be a rather saturated market by Illustrators) and not a book of fiction but a book of one of my favorite creatures and certainly one of my favorite superstition… I should explain.
My Grandfather started me off in this age old tradition when seeing a Magpie in London he would salute three times and ask the question ‘good morning Mr Magpie, hows the wife?” of course he looked very strange doing this in the middle of seven sisters road, none the less I was hooked. Since then I have never once failed to salute a magpie, I strongly believe that one IS for sorrow and two for joy (though having a slightly melancholic out look of life I tend to feel that I see far more lonesome magpies than pairs) and I vigorously believe that they appreciate me asking after there wives’ (Though again there is no proof that Magpies marry, or indeed that the ones that we see are only male, with the wives’ at home looking after the young) And so it is for this reason and many more that I cant muster the energy to write that I have started as of today to produce the book ‘Magpie – One for sorrow’
I will be updating this blog and various other forms of Social interaction with my progress and hope to have the project complete before the summer, wish me luck.
